Sasha Malchi Home… My Best Friend's Masterpiece

When I was about 6 months old… I met a little girl that instantly became my best friend.  She and I have had more adventures, laughs, high kicks and dance routines than many have in their lifetime.  I have always known her amazing eye for design, groupings, and her attention to detail.  Well, now she's able to show the world with her very own store.  I've told her the next step is a book deal.  And I'd like to be the photographer. Hint Hint.

Her name is Sasha Malchi and she owns Sasha Malchi Home on Brookside in Tulsa.  Her store is nothing short of a masterpiece. Here is a little taste of her beautiful work.

And bonus… she has an amazing children's section.  Which Annie Beth LOVED.

And of course she had to wash her hands in the play kitchen.  Her favorite.

I'm so proud of my best friend.  Her store is amazing.  I know so many more great things will come.  But for now, I'm dreaming of some fun new items for my own home.  Best Friends discount?  Just kidding ;)

Love you Sash.

The flying of time...

I don't know how it's happened, but I just realized that Christmas is one week away... and that fact alone blows my mind.

It's been a while since I have blogged and I've made it a point to work on that.  Hence posting today.  I started a new job in August and since then, I've been going about a million miles a minute.  And many photography jobs.  Which is awesome.  (Thank you to all my sweet clients this year.  #love )

The biggest update is that our little girl is 16 months going on 20 years old.  She literally walks around the house following our conversations and adding her comedic laughter at very appropriate times.  She's already got great timing.  We laugh so much every day and are having so much fun with her.

This is her "fierce" face.  She's serious about photos.

People ask us all the time when we're going to have another baby and I just laugh because it's so not up to us… but if it were, I would still wait as we're having so much fun with her that I'm not ready for another one.  Just sayin.  Lets at least get out of diapers first.

We weren't organized enough to send out Christmas cards… again this year.  It's continuing on our tradition of sending Valentines cards.  I've found as a photographer, I take too many pictures of other families this time of the year, that we just got put on the back burner.  Plus, I had nothing to wear.

So, here's to 2013.  It's been one of the greatest years of my life.  Wonderful hubby, sweetest little Annie Beth Baker Bear… and a new opportunity working for a mission that is very dear to my heart.

What will 2014 have in store?  Only the Lord knows.  Here's to more nights sharing meals with friends around the dinner table, and more dancing in the kitchen with Annie Beth and Stephen.  More exercising, more photography (already booked my first wedding for 2014!) and more growing closer to the Lord.  For isn't that our ultimate goal always?  I know I could use more time spent on the things that matter the most… and that ranks first.

What are you wishing to do more of in 2014?  Let me know!

I know it's been a while... there's been a lot going on around here!

1.  My sweet Annie Beth Birdie Baker Bear turned 1.  I'm still not emotionally able to blog about it.  So I'm ignoring it for just a little more time.  If I ignore it, maybe she won't grow up so fast.

2.  I got a new job!  I'm now with the American Heart Association.  More about that another time too.  I'm so excited about it, and really enjoy it.  (PS-I'm working from home.  Can you hear how much I love that in my voice?)

3.  We're building a 900 sq/ft deck on the back of our house.  I can't wait to reveal it, but I've become like a project manager at home and it's taken up a good amount of time.  (Clarification - WE are not building it, we have "people" thank goodness)

BUT, I had some really sweet moments with Annie Beth yesterday and I wanted to share with you.  She's growing up so fast and I really can't believe it.

We went outside after church with her favorite book... in her new dress that my mom made her.... and we played her favorite game.  Peek-a-boo.

She has the best sense of humor, even at the age of 1.  Her smile could cure any bad day.

This is my favorite one that really shows her personality.

She's so silly.

So... I plan on blogging more often now that we're a bit more settled down with activities and life changes.  Wait, who am I kidding?  I don't think it's going to slow down around here for a LONG time.  This little one is keeping us on our 10 toes!

Birchbox for Men... A top 10 product review

We love subscription boxes in our house.  I get the Birchbox for women, Annie Beth gets a Citrus Lane and Stephen receives the Birchbox for men.  It's just a little something that's fun and most of the time, totally worth the subscription cost.

I thought I would do a top 10 from Stephen's boxes... as his are super cool.  If you have a special man in your life, this might be a fun thing for you to get him.  You can even do a 3 month subscription just to try it out.

So, here goes.  Top 10 items he's received that he LOVES  (These are in no particular order...) (and this is a review by me, the wife, so the outsider's point of view, but still, a good one)

Also, for those of you who don't know, each month he receives a box from Birchbox with 5-6 items.  Several of his are full size items.  These are just some of our favorites.

1.  Molton Brown Re-Charge Black Pepper Bodywash (Best smell on the planet)

Find it here

This bodywash is amazing.  It's addicting and apparently has a cult like following which I now understand once he started using it.  I can't describe the scent in words, but I do LOVE it.

It smells amazing.  And we've since ordered a full size bottle of it.  And given it as a gift.  So there.  It wins a place in the top 10.

2. Oribe Creme for Style - I call this the Maroon Five Hair Gel
Find it here
This is also something we have since ordered a full size of, and Stephen really enjoys using it.  It gives great style to hair that is a little bit longer on top.  Like Adam Levine.  Therefore, it's called the Maroon 5 Gel.  (The smell is also great)

3.  TORO Shave Oil - (Ole')
Find it here
I married a man that has a 2:00 shadow.  Or a noon shadow for that matter.  So shaving is a daily task.  Therefore, he's an expert.  He has tried SEVERAL shave creams, oils, gels... and this is one of his favorite.  Apparently, it allows for a super close shave.  And who doesn't love that?  (Ladies?)

4.  Triple C Designs portable speaker  (For all the music lovers...)

Find it here
This speaker is awesome.  It's great for the bathroom, or hotel room, or on a picnic.  It has a built in battery and can be charged with a usb drive on your computer. And it's pretty stylish, being wood and all.  It's just a cute little speaker with good sound for what it is!

5.  Barking Irons Brando Tee - (Super soft scrumptious tee)

Find it here
Seriously, Stephen loves these so much.  I've ordered more for him after getting one in his box.  They have a slim cut, with angled sleeves, which I personally think is cute.  (I'm sure Stephen thinks they are "cute" too but he would use a different word, like "Cool".  Whatever.)

6.  Areaware Bottle Opener - (Every party needs one.)
Find it here
This bottle opener is super cool.  (again, my words, not his) but I do know he loves it and we've since given this as a gift to several people.  It sticks to your fridge, and the nail pops off the cap and the magnet inside holds it on to the wood part.  (hows that for descriptive?)  Just know it works and it looks cool doing its thing.

7.  Balla Powder - (So fresh and so clean clean)
Find it here
This powder is described to work in the nether regions, but it's also meant for any place you can't put deodorant.  Like your shoes, your shorts, your hands, your chest... and super bonus... it's smells great!  Stephen has since ordered a full size of this product too.  It's something he uses almost every day.

8.  Birchbox exclusive Folding Sunglasses (that's right, they fit in your pocket)
Find it here
These glasses are so cool.. and stylish... especially in the case they came in.  While Stephen can't wear them due to him needing prescriptions... he gave them as a gift to his brother.  We think the concept is so perfect... especially since boys can't have purses (although, some disagree...) these fold up into a slim case that could fit in your pocket.

(PS- On a totally unrelated note, I really think the need for women to carry big purses is due to carrying 3 people's items.  Her own, her children and her husband's wallet and keys.  And ipad.  And lip balm.  And second set of glasses.  Anyone agree with this theory?)

9.  Old Calgary Oxford Wallet (for someone who is super specific on what kind of wallet he uses, this one has won out over everything he's tried)

Find it here
I asked Stephen why he liked this wallet so much.  He told me "it's slim, not bulky even with cards in it, the cards and cash stay, it can expand for cash... and it stays in his pocket"  It's made of felt.. so it's soft, and durable even though you wouldn't think it was that durable.  He's used it daily since November and it still looks good.

10.  Lucky Tiger Balm  (Grrrrr.....)

Find it here
This Lucky Tiger lip balm is great.  I even love it (I think it's in my purse right now).  It's just the right amount of peppermint... and makes your lips so soft.  Chapped lips are so out.  This is one good lip balm.  I (and Stephen) both recommend it.

So there you go.  The top 10 items he's gotten in the last year, but I can say I could have gone on and on.  These are just some of the ones that he's loved and most are items we've since ordered more of.

I (and he) definitely recommend the Birchbox for Men.  It's $20 a month, but they are good about making each box worth well over that $20.  If you're into fun little extras like shave cream, hair gel, and even the latest little gadget or super soft tee-shirt... this is the box for you.  He's gotten a great assortment of high quality products.

If you want to sign up, click here to be placed on their waiting list (if there is one) or just sign up today.  It's a great gift for any man.  They give you a questionnaire so the boxes are fit to be just for you!  Even clothing has come in his size (boxers, t-shirts, ties, etc.)

See it through 'til the end...

Have you ever wondered how hard it is for the Lord to get through to us these days?  With all the distractions, the facebook, the email, the instagram, the work, the children, the husbands, the instagram, the tv, the instagram (can you tell where my distraction lies?)

As I got into my car yesterday to take AB to school, K-Love was on and this song was playing.  And it was the 3rd time I had heard it in 24 hours.

Do you think the Lord was trying to get something through to me?

Passion - The Lord our God

The part that really gets me in this song is the line "You see it through 'til the end"

And doesn't He?

No matter the road, the distance, the trials, the waiting, the prayers, the pleading, the tears, the joy... no matter where He leads us... He sees it through 'til the end.

He's always there... leading.

He's a promise maker.  Promise keeper.

Can't say that about many people in our world today, can we?

Ever Faithful, Never Changing.

The Lord our God.

I pray I don't move without Him. Ever.  For He will guide my steps and lead the way.

Thank you Lord.

Here are the lyrics.  They're powerful and the Lord definitely got through to me ;)  Thanks K-Love ;)

Promise maker, promise keeper
You finish what you begin
Our provision through the desert
You see it through 'til the end
You see it through 'til the end

The Lord out God is ever faithful
Never changing through the ages
From this darkness You will lead us
And forever we will say
You're the Lord our God

In the silence, in the waiting
Still we can know You are good
All Your plans are for Your glory
Yes, we can know You are good
Yes, we can know You are good

We won't move without You
We won't move without You
You're the light of all and all that we need

And forever we will say
You're the Lord our God

The Lord our God

Bright eyes...

I got an email late last night from a dear friend.  She had captured little Birdie at a birthday party this weekend for our sweet friend Gray at Gymboree. I love these pictures so much.  Thank you Candace for taking these.  I will treasure them always!

Sweet, big, bright eyes, fixated on her friends who are all walking and playing.  She just wants to figure out how to play like them so bad!  Soon, little Birdie, soon.  Her eyebrows say "Me?  Can I come?  Please?  OHHHH that looks like so much FUN!!!!!"

Her squeals were so loud.  She had never seen so many fun things to play with in one area.  I will definitely have to take her back there again.  ;)

We love you little Birdie.  And your claps.  They are so precious to us.

If you're happy and you know it....

I was pretty sure when I met this man a few years ago, what he would be like as a father.
I knew he would be patient.  I knew he would be loving.  I knew he would be a leader.
I knew he was meant to be a father to girls.  Just like my dad.
I didn't know he would sing every children's song at the top of his lungs, to get our little one to smile.  I mean, I should have suspected... but now I see it in the flesh and I love every minute of it.
He sure does get a lot of kisses (read:open mouth attacks) from AB.  The minute she went in his arms, this is what happened.  Kisses.  This little one loves her daddy.  She gives him her own special smile when she sees him.  Makes my heart so full.
What made father's day even more special was that we were able to spend it with my parents.  I love my dad, and seeing him with a grandbaby makes me so happy and I'm able to see a whole different side to him.
He's so proud of his little girl.  I know he's proud of me too.  But this is a whole new side of him able to come out.  I love it.

And I think little AB knows how much all her grandparents love her.  She's one truly blessed little girl.  We sit and wait in anticipation for grandbaby #2 to arrive next month (my sister's daughter!).  I can NOT WAIT to have these two little girls in the same room together.  What a sweet time that will be.

And then my mom.  Who is radiant and so beautiful.  I love when people say I look like my mom.  Such a compliment.

And AB loves her BeeBee.  She's clapping for her here.  She loves to clap.  We should all clap more.  It makes you feel good.  Try it.

Mom, I hope I look as good as you do when I'm your age.  Which is still young.  Very young.

(PS- She made this dress.  I have so much to learn as a mother.  Poor AB.  Someday I'll make her something as special as a hand smocked dress.  Prayers are needed for that one to come true)

I am so thankful for my family.  For the family that brought me into this world, for the family that brought Stephen into this world, and for my own little family.  Stephen and I could not be happier to be given the absolute pleasure of raising little AB.  We are thankful for every day we are given with her.  Such a blessing from above.

Happy Father's day to my best friend, Stephen, and to my dad and father in law... you are all such godly men and I am honored to have you in my life.

"If you're happy and you know it clap your hands.... if you're happy and you know it clap your hands.... if you're happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it, if you're happy and you know it clap your hands...."
