Spicy Cheddar Cheese Straws

I always love when my mom shows up to see me with tins.  Tins contain good yummy things.  Things I can't resist, even when I'm on a diet.  Which is now... the worst time of the year.

Don't those look amazing?  I've decided since there were sunflower seeds on top, it's healthy.


And they're so yummy.  You should make them for your office. Your Christmas party.  Or to celebrate a Tuesday. It doesn't matter the occasion.  They are super yummy.

Thanks mom for such a fabulous treat.  I was nice and shared them with my office and now they're all addicted.

Your daughter that wants more tins of goodness

Here's the recipe.  Enjoy!

2 1/2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 tsp. kosher salt
1/2 tsp. dried crust red pepper flakes (makes these spicy!)
*2 TBS half and half

Pulse first 5 ingredients in a food processor at 5 second intervals until mixture resembles coarse crumbles.  Add half and half and process 10 seconds or until dough forms a ball.

Wrap dough tightly in plastic wrap and chill at least 1 hour.  This can chill up to 3 days.  Then divide into 3 pieces.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees and roll out your dough and cut into shapes.  (oh the possibilities!)

Whisk 1 egg white and 1 tsp of water to brush on top of the dough shapes and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, black sesame seeds and salted roasted sunflower seeds.

Bake for 8 minutes.  Enjoy.  And as my mom put on the recipe card she included with her tin of goodness, "Wrap pretty".
