For my 30th birthday... I got to go on a dinner date with my Stephen and I got to pick the place! We had fun trying out a restaurant many friends had recommend, but one we hadn't been to yet.
We got an early reservation (as I'm hungry at 5:01 pm) at Bella Fresca, in Shreveport. It's a small, unsuspecting restaurant, with not too many tables, and an intimate atmosphere.
I had many people recommend the fried calamari, as an appetizer. I'm so glad we ordered it, as it was really great. The Asian sauce that came on it was so yummy.
After the calamari, Stephen ordered a fillet on top of really good mashed potatoes (and of course it had asparagus on it. His favorite), and I ordered a girly salad and soup. (I kind of filled up on bread and calamari, so I felt like I just needed something light). (PS- They have really good bread and whipped butter, for those of you that consider yourselves bread connoisseurs. Like myself).
My salad was just what I wanted. It had a honey vinaigrette, with goat cheese (I checked to make sure it was made with pasteurized milk first... whew! It was), grapes and candied pecans.
The soup I ordered was a roasted red pepper, tomato and vegetable soup. It was so good, but very filling. I just got a cup, and I'm glad I didn't get more. You would have had to roll me out.
One of the highlights of eating early, was the crowd. We were sat next to a table with very well dressed older women, all out on the town. On a Wednesday. I hope that I eat this well when I'm their age. And dress as nice.
After dinner, instead of going to get dessert (I was so stuffed), Stephen took me to my favorite place.
I know. We're crazy kids, and we had a blast.
We then came home and I was able to have some pound cake that I had made the night before (I had a craving I guess) with fresh berries. It was wonderful and gave me an opportunity to use a pretty bundt cake pan from our wedding. Happy Birthday to me!
So, that wraps up birthday week. I'd have to say... while we didn't do anything crazy, it was just perfect for me. Maybe next year we can do a big party, with Annie Beth there. That would be a party for sure.
